This was also not a free pattern, but is a lovely design–the Norby hat by Gudrun Johnston . I use the half skein leftover from my Drip Line Hat and just knit until the yarn was gone. The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn, so the ITY wool/silk DK knit up at a looser gauge, but the end result makes a lovely cowl or headband, depending on how you prefer to wear it.
